Top Manchester craft brewery takes over bar in the Northern Quarter

Top Manchester craft brewery Squawk is set to open its first bricks-and-mortar bar in the Northern Quarter. It’ll be taking over the unit previously vacated by Beatnikz Republic on the corner of Dale Street and Tariff Street.

Beatnikz sadly closed down its brewery last year, but the bar, called Pelican, will be reopened on March 31 as a joint project from Squawk founder Oli Turnton and Rosie Setterfield-Price.

Setterfield-Price, who works part-time at Squawk but who will be running the bar having previously managed the nearby Port Street Beer House, said: “It’s very exciting. It’s Squawk’s 10th anniversary this year, and this will be its first ever bar. We’re changing it up quite a bit inside.

“The beer range will be a lot of Squawk beers, but we’re keeping 10 or 11 guest lines in too to be able to do a lot of events with other people and support other local breweries.

"We’ll be doing a lot of events, tap takeovers, food events, open deck events, and some lead-karaoke, which might be quite fun. Pop-up tasting type things, rather than fancy meals.”

Squawk was founded in 2013, and sells its craft ales, IPAs, lagers and stouts all over the world.
