Tony Smith provides key injury update on Hull KR ace Mikey Lewis

Hull Kingston Rovers head coach Tony Smith is waiting to discover the seriousness of Mikey Lewis’ ankle injury but admits the homegrown star is likely to miss the Good Friday derby against Hull FC. Lewis, who has been a revelation since bursting onto the scene last year, suffered the injury early in the second half of Friday’s Challenge Cup quarter-final win over Castleford Tigers.

Despite trying to continue, he was eventually forced from the field and was later seen on crutches, making him a big doubt for the visit of the Black and Whites and Easter Monday trip to Toulouse Olympique. Smith told Hull Live: “Mikey Lewis has been scanned this morning on his ankle injury.

“I haven’t got the report yet, so I don’t know how severe it is. From what I am gathering from the physio, he’s probably unlikely for this week.”

A number of other players will be assessed as the Robins prepare for a gruelling schedule which will see them play two games in four days in two different countries. Smith added: “Korbin Sims rolled his ankle in the reserve-grade game at Leeds on Friday night, but I think he should be okay for at least one of those games over the Easter weekend.

“Albert Vete, I’d be doubtful that he will make this weekend. The next weekend against Wakefield will be more than likely.

“But all the others as in contention – Crooksy (Ben Crooks), Ethan Ryan and Brad Takairangi – so there are a few choices there, which is good. There are some boys who, if they don’t play on Friday in the derby, are likely to feature on Monday.
