Tony Mowbray shares update on Ben Brereton Diaz’s current situation at Blackburn Rovers

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray has revealed that Ben Brereton Diaz could still be two to three weeks away from being available to feature for the club.

The forward is currently being forced to watch on from the sidelines as he recovers from an ankle injury that he sustained during last month’s clash with West Bromwich Albion.

In the absence of the Chile international, Blackburn’s underwhelming run of form continued on Saturday as they suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bristol City.

After Bradley Dack’s penalty was saved by Robins goalkeeper Daniel Bentley, Nigel Pearson’s side sealed all three points in stoppage-time thanks to a goal from Andreas Weimann.

As a result of this setback, Blackburn slipped to fifth in the Championship standings and will be keen to get back to winning ways in their showdown with Derby County at Ewood Park tomorrow.

Ahead of this clash, Mowbray has shared an update on Brereton Diaz.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference (as cited by Blackburn’s official Twitter account) about the forward, Mowbray said: “Brereton is maybe two of three weeks away.”

Making reference to the possibility of the forward featuring for Chile in the international break, Mowbray added: “It’s ongoing day to day, we’re in contact with the Chilean FA.

“He did have his first day on the grass yesterday, but still felt a little bit of discomfort.

“They wanted him to go a few days early to have a look at him, to see how advanced he was.

“He’s going to give it a few more days here rather than go to Chile, and if he’s not ready
