Tonbridge Angels goalkeeper Jonny Henly and midfielder Scott Wagstaff sign new deals
Tonbridge Angels have got to work on retaining players for next season.
Midfielder Scott Wagstaff - voted both players’ player and supporters’ player-of-the-year - has signed a new deal at Longmead.
And he has been joined by long-serving goalkeeper Jonny Henly as Jay Saunders looks to build on Angels’ record ninth-placed finish in National South.
Wagstaff made 35 appearances after joining Tonbridge as a free agent in October.
The former Bristol City and Charlton man quickly became a fans’ favourite, scoring the equaliser against Ebbsfleet and providing five assists.
Boss Saunders said: “I’m absolutely delighted to keep Waggy on board.
“When you look at the awards he has won this season, it just shows you what the supporters and his team-mates think of him.
“His experience has been really valuable to us, so it was important that we got him tied down.”
Henly, runner-up to Wagstaff in the supporters’ vote, has made more than 250 appearances in six years at Longmead.
He’s been as good as ever this season and Saunders said: “I’m delighted to have Jonny signed up.
“He’s one of the best keepers in the league and also a great character to have in the squad.”
Along with Wagstaff’s double award, Lewis Gard received the manager’s player-of-the-year award after an impressive debut campaign at the club.
Seventeen-goal Jordan Greenidge picked up the top scorer award while Sonny Miles - who’s leaving Longmead after a record 527 appearances across two spells - collected the goal-of-the-season award for his opening-day screamer at Weymouth.
There was also a presentation to Dave Netherstreet as he stood down after five years as chairman.
Director Sophie Purves has been voted in as his successor.
