Tom McKibbin keeps it steady in Sun City for an opening 70

Tom McKibbin kicked off his Nedbank Challenge with a steady-as-you-like opening round of 70 at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa.

Among the early starters, McKibbin birdied his first hole of the day - the par-five 10th - and then proceeded to go bogey free for the entire morning, picking up one more birdie on the long second, his 11th hole, to get to two-under-par.

The Holywood youngster would pair two nines of 35 strokes for his 70, leaving him in a tie for 20th place at the end of the first day's play.

Denmark's Nicolai Hojgaard, Sweden's Vincent Norrman, Englishman Dan Bradbury and the American, Max Homa, all carded rounds of 66 to sit tied for the lead on six-under-par overall.

Two-time defending champion, Tommy Fleetwood of England, dropped four shots in a sloppy round of 71 to sit one-under-par overall.
