Tom Curry banned for two games after accepting red card
England flanker Tom Curry will miss their Rugby World Cup Pool D meetings with Japan and Chile, after receiving a two-week ban following his red card against Argentina.
The Sale Sharks back row was shown a yellow card just three minutes into the 27-10 win against Argentina in Marseille after making head contact with Pumas full-back Juan Cruz Mallia, which was then upgraded to red by the TMO Bunker.
Curry appeared before an independent disciplinary committee this afternoon, and accepted he had committed an act of foul play worthy of a red card, which was England's fourth in their last six games.
The committee deemed his tackle to merit a mid-range entry point of six weeks, with the full 50% mitigation applied after his admission of foul play, a previously clean disciplinary record, and an apology to the player.
A three-game ban was then reduced to two on the provision that Curry completes the World Rugby Coaching Intervention Programme (aka Tackle School).
The 25-year-old will miss this Sunday's meeting with Japan in Nice, as well as their game against Chile on 23 September, but will be available for their final pool match against Samoa on Saturday 7 October.
