'To Liverpool' - Source reveals agent now wants to gift-wrap 'amazing' signing for Julian Ward
As per a ‘recruitment source’, speaking to Football Insider, Liverpool have been offered as a possible transfer destination for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a move away from Elland Road since Leeds returned to the top flight and their recent struggles would appear to have placed further scrutiny on the star’s future.
Albeit badly hampered by a hamstring injury this season, Phillips was a shining light during the 2020/21 campaign, scoring once and providing two assists in 29 Premier League appearances, making a tremendous 2.6 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per game.
The defensive-minded midfielder has attracted plenty of admiration and was even described as ‘amazing’ by Jose Mourinho following a brilliant performance against Croatia during Euro 2020, in which he completed 94 per cent of his passes and all of his long ball attempts, dictating the tempo of the match in a 1-0 win (Sofascore).
According to the FI source, the England international has been informed of the possibility of a switch to the Reds by some of the ‘biggest’ football agents, as he is expected to change his representation ahead of a big summer move.
The headline states that a ‘leading agency’ have offered Phillips an opportunity to make the switch to Anfield.
Citing an ‘eye-opening sales pitch’, it’s claimed that the leading agent has told the ace ‘we’ll get you to Liverpool’.
Often agents use perceived interest from top-level clubs in order to drive up the price of their asset, and this may well be tantamount to something similar.
Whilst there is little doubting Phillips’ ability, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has built up a strong stock of central midfielders on Merseyside.
