Tipperary's Jason Forde & James Quigley out for Limerick clash, John McGrath's season is over
Tipperary's slim championship hopes have taken another blow with the news that Jason Forde and James Quigley will miss Sunday's showdown with Limerick while former All-Star John McGrath is out for the rest of the season.
Two-time All-Ireland winner McGrath limped off 23 minutes into the Premier County's Munster SHC defeat to Clare last week and Tipperary today confirmed that he has undergone surgery on a ruptured Achilles tendon today. That injury typically requires at least six months recovery time.
Quigley also departed early against the Banner after straining a hamstring while free-taker Forde finished the game but has suffered an unspecified injury.
Following their defeats to Waterford and Clare, 2019 All-Ireland champions Tipp need to beat three-in-a-row chasers Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds to have any chance of progressing to an All-Ireland quarter-final.
They have already been coping without former All-Stars Seamus Callanan and John 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer due to hand and knee injuries respectively.
