Timothy Castagne makes goal admission after Leicester City stunner

Timothy Castagne marked his return to Leicester City action with a sensational strike against Brentford.

The Belgian, after three months out with a thigh injury, opened the scoring in the Foxes’ 2-1 win with an unstoppable effort before James Maddison doubled the lead with another long-range special. While Maddison’s goal was no real surprise, Castagne’s effort was a bolt from the blue, even for the player himself.

“Even in training, I don’t think I’ve scored goals like that. I’m not known for my shots. It’s my best one, I think,” he told the club website.

“It was the best return possible, we got the win and a good goal, so I’m very happy. To be honest, I wanted to shoot fast because I saw the guy trying to block it and I saw the trajectory and I knew it was in.

“I think you can see on my face that I was as surprised as the rest of the team. It was great, great support today, even when I came off the pitch. To see the support was amazing.”

Importantly, Castagne got through the game, his first appearance since December 28.

“I’ve been training for a week now with the team,” he said. “Obviously, with the away game and stuff, we couldn’t do too much, so I didn’t expect I would start today, but I was happy to start and I was blowing a bit at half-time, so that’s why I came off.”
