Tight end Marcedes Lewis agrees to sign with Chicago Bears - ESPN

Free agent tight end Marcedes Lewis has agreed to a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, he told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Friday.

It would be his 18th NFL season, which would break a tie with Jason Witten and Tony Gonzalez for the most ever played at the position.

The 39-year-old Lewis caught only six passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns for the rival Green Bay Packers in 2022, but he proved his worth as an effective blocker.

Earlier this offseason, New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had mentioned former tight end as «a guy I want to finish my career with» and raved about Lewis' leadership skills while in Green Bay.

Lewis will be joining Cole Kmet and Robert Tonyan, another ex-Packer, as tight ends in Chicago.

Drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2006, with whom he played 12 seasons, Lewis has 432 career receptions for 5,084 yards and 39 touchdowns.
