Three players who would benefit from Erik ten Hag becoming Manchester United manager

The size of the challenge awaiting prospective Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is an enormous one.

The Dutchman, who has transformed Ajax's fortunes since taking the reins at the Johan Cruyff Arena in December 2017, is one of the favourites to take over at Old Trafford ahead of the start of next season and oversee the next chapter in the club's history. The Manchester Evening News understands that he is United's preferred candidate for the role and they are big admirers of his managerial credentials.

Both domestically and in Europe, Ten Hag has overseen an excellent job at Ajax over the last few years, putting the club back on the map after a few years of disappointments. His ability to get his players playing a nice brand of football, as well as installing huge amounts of trust in youth, is what has made him so successful.

Although Ten Hag, should he be appointed United's next manager, will face a series of difficult challenges in his attempts to take the club back to where they want to be, he could, if granted patience, be able to oversee a long-term project that United have been longing for. Big changes are needed within the squad this summer and the Dutchman could be the right person to oversee that change, least of all the introduction of several youngsters to the first-team fold.

But it is not just youngsters that could benefit from Ten Hag's methods; senior players who have lost their way could also benefit from his presence.
