Three players who could leave Reading FC before the end of summer transfer window

Reading FC have been busy in the transfer window so far, with seven new players coming through the door.

The latest is former Sheffield Wednesday defender Sam Hutchinson, who has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with Royals following a successful trial stint.

He joins Joe Lumley, Tom Ince, Dean Bouzanis, Tyrese Fornah, Jeff Hendrick, Shane Long and Sam Hutchinson in making the move to Berkshire this summer.

The arrivals followed a number of key departures following the end of last season, including Josh Laurent, John Swift and Andy Rinomhota, who came to the end of their contracts.

And with the flurry of new faces coming in, it's not inconceivable to see further exits in the next six weeks to make room for the fresh blood being brought in by boss Paul Ince. Clubs have until 11pm on Thursday, September 1 before the window shuts on transfers between clubs for the rest of the calendar year.

In light of this, here are three players who could leave Reading before the window closes.

The academy graduate has been demoted to third choice in the goalkeeping department following the arrivals of Joe Lumley and Dean Bouzanis. As a result, he has only played once in pre-season - in the 4-0 win over Maidenhead United at Bearwood Park.

It is understood Southwood is keen on remaining at the club for the season although depending on how the first few weeks of the campaign pan out, his stance could change with no realistic prospect of game time coming in his direction. Therefore, should an attractive opportunity present itself for the 24-year-old, it's unlikely Reading would stand in his way as he seeks regular minutes either out on loan or on a permanent deal somewhere.
