Three Antony alternatives Manchester United and Erik ten Hag can target

Following a painfully slow start to the summer transfer window, Manchester United's summer recruitment drive is beginning to gather significant pace.

The club has completed the signings of Tyrell Malacia and Christian Eriksen, strengthening their left-back and attacking-midfield options, and will also add Lisandro Martinez to their ranks. United confirmed on Sunday that they have reached an agreement with Dutch outfit Ajax to sign the 24-year-old Argentina international, subject to him passing a medical and finalising personal terms.

His arrival at Old Trafford will bring United's pursuit of a centre-back to an end, leaving just the Frenkie de Jong saga and right-wing conundrum to solve before manager Erik ten Hag has the five signings he wanted. United's pursuit of De Jong is now more than two months old, so fans are determined for a conclusion to be reached, one way or another, before too long.

United's search for a right-winger, meanwhile, initially directed them to Ajax ace Antony. He is Ten Hag's top target to strengthen that area of the team, but the Dutch heavyweights are reluctant to part ways with one of their star assets.
