Threave Rovers boss looking forward to Upper Annandale cup clash

Threave Rovers boss Vinnie Parker is relishing Saturday's cup clash with Upper Annandale.

They beat Queen of the South’s youth team 2-0 to progress in the Potts Cup on Friday night.

They drew 1-1 with Uppers at Palmerston in the South of Scotland League on Wednesday night and picked the Queens surface due to problems with the Meadow Park pitch.

The two teams clash again on Saturday and Parker said: “We have switched the venue from Moffat to Lockerbie and the King Edward ground because the weather is going to be bad and we can at least guarantee the game will go ahead.

“Uppers will give us a tough gig and they like to play football and in the games they’ve played against us already this season they have worked hard.

“But I always fancy ourselves to get a result if we can play to our best on the day.”

He added of the win over Queens: “They had a few schoolboy internationals playing and it was a good, young team that we were up against.

“We put in a decent performance and I was pleased with the win.”

Threave’s Aiden Kerr headed them in front after a quarter of an hour and the lead was doubled just before the break when Dan Carmichael headed in a Phil Middlemiss cross.

Queens responded after the break but Threave almost added a killer third, Tam Coles seeing a header kept out by the keeper and the bar.

The win made up for Threave’s midweek Tweedie Cup exit as they lost a 7-3 in a thrilling match at Mid Annandale.

The home side quickly moved into a three goal lead before Kerr struck to provide some hope before half-time.

However, Mids restored their three goal lead after an hour before soon adding a fifth.

Scott Milligan reduced the deficit only for Mids to get their sixth.
