Thorben Hoffmann's WhatsApp message which may have revealed Sunderland transfer plan

Ron-Thorben Hoffmann may have just given an insight into Sunderland's transfer plans this summer. Speaking in his column for German media outlet Kicker, the 23-year-old revealed his Wembley preparations and a WhatsApp conversation that may shine a light on the Black Cats' plans this summer.

Hoffmann claims a friend's son was sat near 'Bellingham' in the stands at Wembley - presumably Jude Bellingham - but it would beg the question, 'was he there?' Jude's brother Jobe has been one of the names linked with a move to Sunderland this summer and it could easily be a case of mistaken identity.

In his column, the former Sunderland loanee said: "Before the game, I received a WhatsApp from a friend’s son, whom I had invited to the game with his father. Freddy wrote: “Beside me is Bellingham! That’s so awesome. Thanks for letting us be here.”

"And in those few words is the same love for the game. Football is indeed global and connects people in a very emotional way. Being part of this fascination is great."

Sunderland are one of the clubs interested in signing Jobe Bellingham from Birmingham City this summer. The Black Cats sporting director Kristjaan Speakman was at Birmingham City for brother Jude's rise to prominence and he has a good relationship with their parents Mark and Denise.

Reports earlier this year, claimed the Wearsiders invited the pair to take in a game at the Stadium of Light. The Under-17 England youth international has made three senior appearances for the Blues, just 16-years-old.
