Thomas Tuchel explains why four Chelsea players have left pre-season training camp

Thomas Tuchel has taken the decision to reduce the size of the Chelsea first team squad currently on its pre-season tour of America and explained Amrando Broja’s return to England.

The Blues kicked-off their summer schedule with a 2-1 win over Club America over the weekend and are back in action against Charlotte on Thursday in a game which could feature new signing Raheem Sterling, as well as Kalidou Koulibaly.

Chelsea will, however, be without Armando Broja, who has flown home, along with Tino Anjorin, while Billy Gilmour and Harvey Vale will link up with Chelsea Under-23s, who are also preparing for the upcoming campaign in the United States.

Broja impressed while on loan at Southampton last season but his chances of first team football at Stamford Bridge remain limited, even after the departure of Romelu Lukaku.

The Albania international appears destined to join West Ham in a £30million deal, but Tuchel explained his departure from the training camp was injury related.

‘Armando had to travel home, he had a little accident in training,’ the Chelsea manager confirmed.

‘He twisted his ankle and he needs further examinations and treatments in London.

‘It did not make sense to just have him as an additional player because we need all capacities of treatment for the guys who are actually fit and on the pitch.

‘So the best way for him to get the best treatment and as soon as possible back on the pitch was to leave for London.’

Anjorin, who spent last season at Spartak Moscow and Huddersfield, is set for another loan spell, while the short-term plans for both Gilmour and Harvey Vale are yet to be determined.
