Thomas Tuchel condemns Chelsea chants about Roman Abramovich during Ukraine tribute

Some Chelsea fans were reportedly heard chanting about Roman Abramovich during a tribute to Ukraine before the Premier League clash with Burnley on Saturday afternoon.

According to Sky Sports, members of the travelling support at Turf Moor decided to use the minute of applause for Ukraine as an opportunity to chant about their outgoing owner.

Roman Abramovich has recently confirmed that he will be selling Chelsea after almost two decades at the helm in a decision that has produced a variety of reactions across social media.

However, it seems clear that certain Blues supporters were keen to show their support for the Russian billionaire before kick-off in their 4-0 win over Burnley.

The Premier League had announced earlier in the week that clubs would show their solidarity with Ukraine via a moment of reflection, while all 20 captains would sport special blue and yellow armbands.

And the decision for some Chelsea fans to chant about Abramovich during this moment proved to be a controversial one with their very own manager Thomas Tuchel condemning the move after the game.

According to the Daily Mail, Tuchel said during his post-match press duties: “It’s not the moment to do this. If we show solidarity we should do it together.

“We take the knee together. If an important person from our club or another club unfortunately dies we have a minute of respect.

“It is not the moment to give other messages. It’s the moment to show respect. We want to do this. As a club we need our fans to commit to this minute of applause.

“We do it for Ukraine and there is no second opinion about this situation. They have our thoughts and our support and we should stand together. It’s not the moment for other messages.”
