The Blues and Spurs bosses had clashed earlier in the game and received yellow cards for their reactions after Tottenham’s first goal at Stamford Bridge.

However, it was after the final whistle when the serious confrontation occurred, with the managers shaking hands, then not releasing the shake, squaring up agreressively and exchanging heated words.

Coaches and players separated the managers but they were both shown straight red cards by referee Anthony Taylor.

The Football Association has since charged them both, alleging that the behaviour of both was improper.

They have until Thursday 18 August to respond to the charge.

Tuchel is also facing a potential rap from the Football Association after they opened an investigation into his comments following the match.

The German boss was furious that a foul on Kai Havertz was not given in the build-up to Tottenham’s first goal, while he also thinks Richarlison was offside when Pierre-Emile Hojberg scored.

Tuchel was also angry that a foul was not given against Cristian Romero for pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair shortly before the second equaliser.

Asked if Taylor should not referee Chelsea games, he said: ‘Maybe it would be better. Maybe it would be better.’
