Thomas Tuchel admits doubts over Chelsea players before win at Norwich

Thomas Tuchel admitted that he had doubts over how his Chelsea players would cope with the uncertainty at the club ahead of their 3-1 win at Norwich City on Thursday night.

Blues owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government on Thursday, throwing the club into chaos and an entirely uncertain future in the short and long terms.

Chelsea had to go to Norwich in the Premier League on the same day as the sanctions were imposed, and despite the significant distraction, they played well, with Trevoh Chalobah, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz scoring in the 3-1 win.

Tuchel admits it is a tricky time and he had doubts over how his players would deal with it on the pitch, but trusted them to get the result they were looking for.

‘It would be a lie if I said we I had no doubts but I also had a lot of trust,’ Tuchel told BBC Match of the Day.

‘In difficult circumstances we produced a lot of results and good performances so we can trust in our mentality and the culture in the club. We allowed ourselves to focus on the football.’

The German is remaining relaxed and played down the chaos at the club, saying he and his players will just focus on the football and nothing else.

‘Not as difficult as some people may think,’ Tuchel continued on dealing with the current situation. ‘The noise is there and of course it is another level of distraction but still the [team] meeting was the same and the schedule going to the match was the same.
