Thomas Frank tells Brentford star what he must do to earn move to Man City

Brentford manager Thomas Frank has insisted that Aaron Hickey will not be sold in the summer despite reported interest from Manchester City.

This month, the Blues have been linked with a move for Hickey after his brilliant debut season with Brentford. The left-back arrived from Serie A side Bologna in the summer and has gone on to make 21 appearances for the London club.

His latest appearance was a cameo in the 2-0 victory over Chelsea on Wednesday night. Although he did not feature heavily in the game, the Scotland international was a talking point in Frank's post-match press conference.

When asked about City's reported interest in Hickey, Frank questioned whether he would be able to make the leap to the Etihad. "We will not sell him," the Danish manager said.

"He’s not even been here a year. With all due respect, I think he’s a very good young player that I think has a fantastic future ahead of him.

"[But] there needs to be a little bit more to get into the City team in terms of performances." Pep Guardiola is expected to add to his defensive options at the end of the season.

Full-back Joao Cancelo is currently on loan at Bayern Munich after seeking more minutes away from Manchester. While the Portuguese defender is not guaranteed to join the Bundesliga giants permanently, he is thought to be on his way out of the club come the summer window.

Elsewhere, following Guardiola's change in system this campaign, Kyle Walker is claimed to be set for fewer minutes in the 2023/24 season.
