Thieves smash into Halifax branch in Stockport and leave storefront in pieces

Investigations are taking place in Stockport after a bank's storefront was smashed to pieces by looters who used a van to ram-raid the branch.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) were called to the scene at around 11:10pm yesterday evening (Friday 15 July) to reports of a burglary at the Merseyway Halifax branch.

Pictures show a ripped up cash machine sticking through the shattered glass windows, with a large police presence in the area throughout the morning.

It is believed that four offenders used a van to attempt to ram-raid the bank, before making off with a "small" amount of cash. A cordon remained in place this morning as police carried out initial enquiries, but has now been lifted.

No arrests have been made, and police say enquiries are ongoing.

A GMP spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 11.10pm on Friday 15 July to a report of a burglary at a bank on Merseyway, Stockport.
