Thierry Henry slams PSG star as Jamie Carragher rips into 'disgraceful' defending

Thierry Henry slammed Marquinhos after Paris Saint-Germain’s Champions League defeat to Real Madrid, while Jamie Carragher described the French side’s defending as ’embarrassing’ and ‘disgraceful’.

PSG, leading 1-0 after the first leg of the last-16 tie, took full control of the contest after Kylian Mbappe opened the scoring in Madrid on Wednesday night.

But Karim Benzema scored a superb second-half hat-trick to overturn the deficit and send Real Madrid through to the quarter-finals.

Marquinhos inadvertently gave the ball to Benzema for his third goal and Arsenal legend Henry said this was one of a number of ‘mistakes’ he made during the game.

‘Marquinhos does these types of mistakes and he did it a lot in the game,’ Henry told CBS Sports.

‘Instead of clearing the ball he tried to play and pass the ball to [Presnel] Kimpembe, but Benzema was alert and arrived there before him.’

Benzema’s winner came just moments after he levelled the tie and Carragher said PSG’s defending for the third goal was ‘disgraceful’.

‘This is absolutely embarrassing,’ the former Liverpool defender added. ‘This is absolutely disgraceful, it really is.

‘If Real Madrid were playing against an under-15 team or a kids’ team, this shouldn’t happen.

‘Players at this level where they’ve just got to dig in now and fight, they really have. It’s obviously a difficult position, they’ve just conceded two goals.

‘To do that straight from a kick-off is absolutely embarrassing.’
