"They will still spend" - Transfer insider drops major Chelsea claim involving Todd Boehly

Chelsea will not be able to splash the cash they previously did under Roman Abramovich’s rule as incoming owner Todd Boehly will have to ensure Financial Fair Play rules are not broken at Stamford Bridge, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Abramovich put Chelsea up for sale in March, soon after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and it appears his reign will officially come to an end in the coming weeks.

Chelsea confirmed last week that an agreement is in place for a consortium led by Boehly to take the club off Abramovich’s hands.

The club statement revealed the deal, worth a total of £4.25billion, is expected to go through later this month.

According to Forbes, Boehly is worth a staggering £3.6billion and he is a co-owner of Major League Baseball franchise LA Dodgers as well as being a minority shareholder in NBA giants Los Angeles Lakers.

Boehly has reportedly instructed Chelsea to kick-start their transfer plans as soon as his takeover is cleared due to seeing the summer window as an immediate priority.

He is also expected to give head coach Thomas Tuchel his full backing, while Bruce Buck and Marina Granovskaia are set to remain as the Blues’ chairman and a behind-the-scenes director respectively.

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “No-one can live up to what Abramovich did. That level of spending is gone.

“They will have to be more cautious this time, with FFP.
