"There's talk of him leaving" - Journalist drops verdict on £25m ace who hasn't "worked"

Aston Villa‘s decision to sign Danny Ings last summer has not worked out, according to journalist Josh Holland.

The striker has struggled at the Midlands club since arriving from Southampton and is already being linked with a move away.

At the end of May, Football Insider claimed that Villa will listen to offers for Ings, who they signed for £25m almost a year ago.

The same outlet states that manager Steven Gerrard has plans to bring in a top-class striker this summer, hence the Villans’ willingness to allow Ings to leave.

During the 2021/22 season, he made 31 appearances, managing just seven goals for his side.

With Ollie Watkins at the club, the 29-year-old was not always in Villa’s starting XI, something that will be a concern to him going into the next campaign.

After that disappointing season, Holland can understand why there is now talk about Ings leaving Villa this summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “You look at Ings last season, he wasn’t really called upon as much as he would’ve preferred. At Southampton, he was the main man, but at Villa, it hasn’t really worked.

“I think he knows that and Gerrard knows that. I think that’s why there’s talk of him leaving so early after the season finishing.”

Brighton have been mentioned as a potential destination for Ings should he decide to depart Villa Park.

Prior to their report about Gerrard wanting to bring in a new forward, Football Insider claimed that the Seagulls had added the Englishman to their shortlist.

Elsewhere, the Daily Mirror has suggested that he could be involved in a swap deal that would see him and Yves Bissouma head in opposite directions.
