“There is another couple of gears” – Derby County fan pundit reacts to new signing’s start at Pride Park

One League One signing that certainly caught the eye during the earlier stages of the transfer window was Conor Hourihane’s arrival at Derby County. 

The midfielder was seemingly a target at several Championship clubs at the time, with the Rams managing to win that particular race.

Playing every minute of Derby’s League One campaign thus far, Hourihane opened his account on the opening day of the season, netting an 80th minute winner with an excellent strike from outside the area.

Speaking about Hourihane’s addition and how he has fared up thus far, Football League World’s Derby County fan pundit Jason Straw said: “Conor Hourihane so far in a Derby shirt has been pretty much I think what most Derby fans was expecting when he came in. 

“You can see he’s got quality. You can see he has played at a higher level. You can see that he’s one the best, if not the best midfielder in the division. 

“There’s some people that say we’ve not seen the best out of him. I mean, he’s just coming into a new team, he’s obviously working with a lot of new players. As soon as that gelling starts, we’ve seen glimpses of him, we’ve seen him score, we’ve seen him create.

“I believe that there is another couple of gears for him and I think that comes with settling in, gelling, getting used to who he’s playing with but we’ve already seen some of Conor Hourihane’s quality and I have no doubt we will see much more of it between now and the end of the season.”
