There are two Celtic transfer strategies at play and only one of them will keep Brendan Rodgers – Keith Jackson

There’s plenty to unpack when it comes to Celtic’s strategic approach towards this current transfer window.

Not least, perhaps, the prospect that it will offer some significant insight into where the mind of Brendan Rodgers is at, as he enters into this, the third year of his three year contract as manager.

Rodgers led a largely shadow squad to Ireland on Monday afternoon and his pre-season campaign will continue there later today with a friendly bounce game against Cork.

Of course, that friendly ‘Super Cup’ friendly will go down a storm with the locals but, in reality, it’s little more than a low-key warm-up for the bigger, more glamorous friendlies which are still to come over the course of these next few weeks.

And Rodgers will be hoping for a similar story when it comes to what happens next in the summer market.

Yes, he already has one high end signing inside his Lennoxtown HQ in the shape of £25m man Kieran Tierney. And he’ll be thoroughly delighted by the return of Celtic’s prodigal son.

When fit and functioning Tierney represents a Rolls Royce of an operator and, given that absolutely no fee was involved in bringing him home from Arsenal, it also looks like an incredibly smart piece of business.

But not everyone inside Celtic’s boardroom will necessarily agree.

For some, the decision to throw the kitchen sink at Tierney in terms of the wage deal required to make the move happen, may feel like a continuation of the pivot in policy which also saw Rodgers splash out the guts of £30m on just three new recruits last summer.
