The verdict on Manchester United's newcomer Gabby George ahead of Arsenal clash

It's fair to say Gabby George took Manchester United fans by storm on her debut under Marc Skinner on Women's Super League opening day. The visitors bought all three points home after a strikingly dominant performance all round.

The club secured her move from Everton late on transfer deadline day for a sum of £150,000. And I think I'm not alone to voice just what a bargain that is, after only one game in red.

If I was to rate Gabby George’s performance against Aston Villa, I’d be hard up not to give her maximum points. Okay, Adriana Leon managed to sneak the ball beyond George's reach to set up Rachel Daly's opening goal- and let’s be real, Daly is not going to miss from eight yards out. But the remainder of her performance was flawless.

The 26-year-old slotted in at left back, pushing Hannah Blundell onto the right to fill the Ona Batlle-shaped hole - no pressure there. What the Reds really needed was a full back on the front foot, someone willing to get high, yet track back to deny speedy-gonzales-Alisha Lehmann time and time again - and boy did they get that.

Her style mimicked the likes of last year’s Batlle, happy to carry the ball and deliver into the danger areas on the attack yet somehow beat Lehmann in a footrace at the other end of the field, almost immediately after. Really?! For only £150k?!
