The Undertaker: Major WWE star refused to break legend's WrestleMania undefeated streak

Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s WrestleMania undefeated streak in 2014, but WWE considered doing it sooner.

At WrestleMania XXX in 2014, The Undertaker was finally defeated at the biggest show of the year by Brock Lesnar after 21 straight wins.

However, WWE considered having various other people end the streak in years previous, with names such as Mark Henry, Randy Orton and Edge being considered.

Speaking of Edge, the WWE Hall of Famer was actually approached by WWE about the prospect of ending ‘Taker’s streak at WrestleMania XXIV, which he refused to do.

In an interview before WrestleMania 36 in 2020, Michelle McCool, The Undertaker’s real-life wife, spoke about what happened.

McCool explained that WWE considering having Edge break ‘Taker’s streak in 2008, and while it would have been a huge moment for him, it was Edge who turned it down.

“Actually I remember at WrestleMania [24] versus Edge they talked about Edge breaking the streak,” Michelle McCool told the New York Post.

“It was Edge that was actually like, ‘That makes zero sense. I don’t want to do that. Why would I do that? The fans already love him. What’s it gonna do for Edge?’

Ultimately, the decision was made to have The Undertaker beat Edge at WrestleMania 24, and the wrestling legend would go on to win his ‘Mania matches for the next six years.

After beating the likes of Shawn Michaels, Triple H and CM Punk, Undertaker was beaten by Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX.

Lesnar remains only one of two people to have beaten The Undertaker at WrestleMania, with the other being Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 33 in 2017.

The Undertaker will be involved at WrestleMania this year, although in a non-wrestling capacity, as the 56-year-old is inducted into the WWE
