The stunning campsite on the edge of Snowdonia where you can stay inside a boat

One of the joys of camping is it allows you to spend the night in incredible locations and wake up to amazing views which you just can’t get in a hotel. There are beautiful campsites all across the UK where you can immerse yourself in gorgeous scenery without having to break the bank.

Smugglers Cove in Wales is one of these. It’s nestled on the edge of Snowdonia National Park, by the Dyfi estuary. It’s a bit of a trek to get to from Greater Manchester - around a three hour drive - but worth the journey if you’re after the ultimate escape from everyday life.

The campsite features three pitches on the edge of the river, so you can wake up to views across the water to the nearby Ynys-hir bird reserve. The pitches are on raised slate plateaus, separated from each other by shrubs and surrounded by trees, making it feel as if you have the place to yourself.

The pitches are spacious, with their own fire pits perfect for an al fresco meal. They have access to shared toilets, showers and washing up facilities located within the boatyard.

But if you’re after something completely different to traditional camping, Smugglers Cove offers a unique experience: you can camp, or rather ‘glamp’, inside two renovated boats which dry docked. The Boy John and Hannah have been converted to allow people to stay in them, right by the water’s edge.

Camping at Smugglers Cove is open from March to November. There are still a lot of dates available in September, although availability is limited in October. Prices start from £20 a night.

Boy John and Hannah are available to book all year round. Prices for Boy John start from £70 a night, and from £60 a night
