The Simpsons' Super Bowl 'Prediction' Debunked By Fans

Fans of The Simpsons have debunked claims the show came close to predicting the winner of the Super Bowl.

Ahead of the event, a series of stills were shared on social media which attempted to convince people the animated show had predicted a win for the Bengals, who were given odds of 120-1 to win the Super Bowl at the start of the season.

A tweet, which was posted last Tuesday by the account NFL Memes, featured three stills from The Simpsons which appeared to predict a win for the Bengals.

The first image shows a group of Cincinnati cheerleaders on the show, with the second showing Homer Simpson with ‘Go Bengals’ written on his stomach.

The third still is taken from one of the show’s news channels and features an image of two helmets resembling those of the Bengals and LA Rams – with ‘Bengals Win Super Bowl’ and ‘CIN 34 LA 31’ superimposed over it.

The tweet, which has been liked more than 80,000 times on Twitter, was posted alongside the caption: “Bet the house on the Bengals.”

The Simpsons has been credited with accurately predicting many events, including Donald Trump’s US election win and mass of the elementary particle, the Higgs boson.

However, some fans were sceptical the show had pulled it off again ahead of this year’s Super Bowl.

They pointed out that the third still is taken from Episode 14 from Season 3, titled 'Lisa The Greek', in which a machine called 'Gamble-Tron 2000' predicts that the Bengals would play the Miami Dolphins and beat them by 200 points.

In an attempt to get back at Homer for ignoring her, Lisa tells her feather to bet on Miami, who inexplicably win.

Meanwhile, the other two stills are taken from an entirely different episode, 'Homer and Ned’s Hail Mary Pass', from Season 16.

The sceptics were proved
