The old Eddie Howe comments that show why he is the perfect fit for Newcastle

Newcastle United fans can be assured that Eddie Howe sees his role as more than a simple return to management. The former Bournemouth manager opened up to Monday Night Football in November 2020 - just three months after leaving his post by mutual consent.

His departure meant a 25-year association with the Cherries had come to an abrupt end. After 18 months in the managerial wilderness, Howe returned to the game when he took over the reins on Tyneside.

Since then, the 44-year-old’s relentless hard work on the training ground has transformed a dejected squad from relegation certainties to mid-table hopefuls. Toon fans realise this, too, and have warmed to their manager - continuously echoing his name at every ground they have travelled to. When appearing as a guest on Sky Sports’ flagship Monday night show, Jamie Carragher asked Howe if he would ever find a connection with a club like he did at Bournemouth.

Using Liverpool - Carragher’s own club - as an example, Howe spoke about the importance of ingraining yourself into the fabric of the community while representing their club as a manager.

“Whatever club you're in control of and in charge of, for me, you take that responsibility deeply,” Howe said. “You're in charge of not just the club, but the town's fortunes.

“You talk about a club like Liverpool and how football is everything to that city, you take that responsibility to heart so you just want to do everything in your fibre to bring success to the people connected with the club.”
