The new restaurants, hotels and experiences taking Edinburgh to the top of everyone's wishlist in 2022

Make 2022 the year to explore Edinburgh, one of the great European capitals right on our doorstep.

With its mixture of medieval and modern, the city offers a perfect blend of old and new so visitors can enjoy a whole range of experiences.

Famous, of course, for the castle, culture, festivals, architecture and history but Edinburgh is an evolving city with a story that never ends and this year sees a range of new hotels, restaurants and visitor attractions making the journey north even more worthwhile.

Easy to reach, Edinburgh is a compact and very walkable city, making it a great value for time destination.

Here's just some of the highlights to look out for in Edinburgh in 2022.

Gleneagles highly anticipated Townhouse in Edinburgh has announced that it will be opening its doors in spring 2022 on St Andrew Square, in the iconic building which once housed the British Linen Company and later, the Bank of Scotland.

The brand new 33-room hotel is set to become home to some of the most vibrant eating and drinking experiences in the city, including an all-day restaurant and roof terrace bar with views across the capital's iconic skyline.

The Townhouse also marks Gleneagles first ever expansion outside of its home in Perthshire in its 96-year history.

In another coup for the city, this year also sees the opening of a new Virgin Hotel, Richard Branson's first outside of the USA, while Scottish beer giants BrewDog have recently opened the Brewdog Doghouse Edinburgh Hotel, a five minute walk from Edinburgh Waverley train station and just off The Royal Mile. The multi-level duplex-style rooms in the glamorous new lodgings feature everything from a complimentary guitar to an in-room draught beer tap and even a shower beer fridge.
