The M6 Giraffe is set to return, two years after being blown over in a storm

It was an iconic landmark on journeys up the M6. Gerry the Giraffe used to watch over traffic from a field next to the motorway on the outskirts of Preston.

That was until the model was damaged two years, and had to be removed. Gale-force gusts blew him from the top of the trailer he called home.

But now, Gerry could be on his way back to the M6, LancsLive reports. Bosses of a Lancashire stone firm have revealed what the future has in store for an iconic giraffe.

A Google of M6 giraffe sands you to a website advertising platform for South Planks Farm, a company based in Barton at the Trough of Bowland, which supplies stone, timber, porcelain, lighting, interiors and salvaged items of reclamation.

In January 2022, South Planks bosses told LancsLive: "We had bad gales before Christmas, but it should be fine. Next week we can get it back up; it will be a case of someone going down there picking it back up again."

"It is quite a landmark, and I have heard many people say that. It does stand out a lot, and lots of people notice it - I suppose you could say it is quite distinctive."

"It is quite a nice thing for the company; it does put us on the map, and it's quite a fun thing, especially when people are driving past and see it out of their car windows."

However, since 2022, Gerry has failed to reappear, prompting LancsLive to ask if he would ever return to his prime advertising spot.

Abbie Stewart, sales manager at Stone UK, revealed that the iconic giraffe would be returning to the site. She also hinted that Gerry might be accompanied by a mate.
