The Lord of the Rings: Gollum: Release date confirmed

The Lord of the Rings: Gollum’s release date has been confirmed.

The upcoming stealth game is based on the Lord of the Rings franchise and is set to release onto PC, as well as PS5, PS4 and Xbox Series X/S on September 1st of this year.

A Nintendo Switch version is also planned to release in 2022 although it isn’t clear exactly when that will hit shelves.

The Gollum game was first announced in March of 2019 and the Steam page makes it clear that the game is a story-driven action adventure.

You’ll be playing as Gollum throughout as he goes in search of his famous “precious”.

However, he has two distinctly separate personalities and they will each be battling with the other; it will be up to you to decide exactly how the story pans out. Will you give in to Gollum or hold onto the scraps of logic left behind in Smeagol?

You’ll need to use stealth and agility to be able to survive, and the game also promises to feature a variety of climbing mechanics too.

You will have the opportunity to bring down enemies, though, but to do so you’ll likely need to sneak up behind them.

The game is set to take in the more obscure moments of Gollum’s story, too, as he will go from a slave “below the Dark Tower” to staying with the “Elves of Mirkwood.”

Screenshots were released for the game back in May of 2020 and we now know exactly when the game will be hitting shelves.

The game will be hoping to live up to the standards set by previous console releases such as Middle-Earth: Shadow of Morder and Lord of the Rings: Return of the King.
