The Holiday on Channel 5: What it's about, cast, and where you have seen them before

Telly fans who are looking for an escape from the back-to-back football coverage over the next few days need not look any further.

The Holiday is Channel 5's latest offering and it starts tonight (Tuesday, March 1).

The four-part series is based on the best-selling book, The Holiday by T.M. Logan, and follows Kate, a woman whose dream family holiday quickly becomes a nightmare.

Kate, played by Jill Halfpenny, discovers that her husband is having an affair with one of her best friends while on a family holiday in Malta.

But not only that, her four best friends are on holiday with her. So which friend is it and what lengths will they go to to stay hidden?

As mentioned, The Holiday begins Channel 5 on Tuesday, March 1, at 9pm.

The series will then continue across the three following consecutive nights, with the finale airing on Friday, March 4, at 9pm.

Former soap star Jill Halfpenny is leading the cast as Kate.

Her role in the series follows her portrayal of Jodie in Channel 5's 2021 hit, The Drowning.

Jill will be well recognised for a whole host of roles, from her early days on Byker Grove to appearing in Coronation Street, Eastenders and Waterloo Road.

Starring as Kate's husband, Sean, is Owen McDonnell.

Viewers may recognise the Irish actor for playing Niko Polastri in BBC smash, Killing Eve - the husband to Sandra Oh's title character.

He has also appeared in BBC shows Spooks, and Silent Witness, as well as the first two series of sitcom Mount Pleasant on Sky1.

Film star Lara McDonnell is making her TV debut in The Holiday.
