The heartbreaking cause behind young mum's sudden death after collapsing in Turkey airport

A mum-of-three's cause of death has been confirmed after she suddenly passed away while waiting to fly home from Turkey.

Melissa Kinsella, 30, from Moreton, Merseyside, was waiting for her flight at Antalya Airport when she suddenly collapsed and suffered a serious seizure and cardiac arrest. Her heartbroken family and friends raised over £50,000 to bring her back to the UK, however, she was pronounced dead just hours after landing back in Merseyside.

After her death on May 26, 2023, her family was desperate to know why the previously apparently healthy mum died so suddenly. Two months later, Melissa's cousin Nicole received test results which confirmed she has Long QT Syndrome - a genetic heart condition.

Tests on Melissa revealed she also had the same conditions. Now, Melissa's mum, Michelle Heathcote, 51, has spoken out to reveal Nicole's test results that could have saved her daughter's life.

Michelle, said: “We had no idea Nicole was being tested. She’d had her own health issues last year and was tested in December. NHS guidelines recommend three months for test results. If that was the case, Melissa would have been tested, as a relative, and her life might have been saved.

“I have lost my only daughter, and her three little girls are left without a mummy. It is absolutely tragic. I’m speaking out because I want to raise awareness of this killer condition, and I also want to stress the vital importance of processing test results as quickly as possible.”
