The Glazers have forgotten about their Manchester United promise

Eight months and counting.

That is how long it has now been since the Glazer family officially put Manchester United up for sale. At the time, the 2022 World Cup in Qatar was only three days old and we are now three days into the Women's World Cup in New Zealand and Australia.

To say that the situation has dragged on for too long is an understatement. Despite various deadlines for bids coming and going, United are still no closer to being placed into the hands of new owners.

British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe, who wants to secure a majority stake, and Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, who wants full control of the club, have established themselves as the frontrunners to secure the keys to Old Trafford. But despite the cluster of bids they have each tabled, the Glazers are still in power.

Updates from both camps over the past couple of weeks have been sparse, almost as though the prospect of buying one of the biggest football clubs in the world has been forgotten about. Fans are understandably desperate for updates, though some are probably relieved matters on the pitch are about to do the talking again.

The last time United played in a competitive fixture was at Wembley in the FA Cup final just seven weeks ago. Sheikh Jassim tabled a fifth and improved bid just four days later. Nothing has developed since.
