The 'easy' transfer decision for Nottingham Forest to make in big summer window

Keinan Davis arrived at Nottingham Forest with a few question marks next to his name.

Could he score goals? Could he hold down a starting spot? Could he lead the line?

The striker has more than responded to any doubts about the impact he might have for the Reds, though. He has been terrific.

Losing Lewis Grabban to injury for two months could have been a turning point in Forest’s campaign. Being without their top scorer and forward talisman for an extended period of time could have hit them hard.

Grabban has still been a big miss, of course. Hopefully having him back for the season’s run-in will be a huge boost to the Reds’ top-six chances.

But Forest have nevertheless kept picking up positive results in his absence. Others have stepped up to the plate, including Davis.

And if there is an opportunity to get him back at the City Ground in the summer, it could prove to be a good bit of business. Assessing his striker options will be on the agenda for boss Steve Cooper at the end of the campaign, wherever happens between now and May. Davis will surely have provided food for thought.

The Aston Villa loanee is clearly enjoying his time on the banks of the Trent. He is also thriving under the guidance of Cooper and the mentorship of Grabban.

At 24, Davis still has plenty of room for development. He can continue to improve, as he’s already shown as his fitness levels build up. And he fits with the profile of transfer Forest are focusing on under CEO Dane Murphy and Cooper.

There would also be no need for a transition period should Davis return. He’s already settled into life Trentside, saying how much he and the other loanees are “loving” their time at the club.

Big decisions will need to be made at Forest in the summer. But,
