The damning image that shows Erik ten Hag's biggest Manchester United complaint

Manchester United's inability to be clinical enough in front of goal has been a bugbear for Erik ten Hag all season, and he was bemoaning that issue again after a point he was actually pleased with at Fenerbahce.

United were happy enough with a draw despite seeing a lead disappear in Europe once again, but they could have earned their first win in continental competition in a year had they shown a little more composure in front of goal.

They can score excellent goals and the three they have netted this week have all been outstanding finishes, courtesy of Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen. But too many very presentable chances are not being taken.

The most damning example of that on Thursday came when the game had sprung open after Fenerbahce's wild appeals for a penalty on Bright Osayi-Samuel. Jose Mourinho was sent-off in the maelstrom that followed, and briefly the game became even more unstructured.

On this occasion, that benefited United. Diogo Dalot found space down the right to burst into the area, and from deep inside the box he had two simple passes to play. One was across the face of goal to Rasmus Hojlund for a tap-in, and the other was towards the penalty spot for Marcus Rashford for what was also a chance you would expect him to bury.
