"The biggest danger for Newcastle" - Insider shares major problem facing Eddie Howe

Newcastle United have to hope that players come to them for the right reasons this summer, says journalist Dean Jones.

The Magpies are now the richest club in the world following their recent takeover, and Jones fears that could see footballers decide to join them just for the money.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who has been on Newcastle’s books before, is one of the latest players to be linked with a move to St James’ Park.

According to The Telegraph, the Tyneside outfit have made the 26-year-old a target amid fears that Benfica hitman Darwin Nunez will reject them in the upcoming transfer window.

Toney, who has impressed in the Premier League this season after reaching double figures for goals, is seen as an alternative to Nunez.

As well as Toney, The Telegraph claims that Newcastle are also eyeing Hugo Ekitike having missed out on the Reims youngster in January.

Jones believes players wanting to join Newcastle for financial purposes is one danger the Premier League outfit will have to look out for in the summer.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “They’ve just got to hope that whoever comes is in it for the right reasons. The biggest danger for Newcastle, and they know it themselves, is that people start coming just for the money.

“It hasn’t happened so far. They’ve been really careful about that, and they won’t want to mess this up.”

Given that they are not competing in Europe yet, the likelihood is that some top players will only be willing to join Newcastle because of the payday they can get.

However, the Magpies did, of course, sign Bruno Guimaraes in January, with the Brazilian talking up the history of the club
