'The best signing!' — Manchester United fans react to Michael Edwards job speculation

The reign of John Murtough as Manchester United's director of football has really only just begun. Alongside new CEO Richard Arnold he has overseen a massive structural shift behind the scenes at Old Trafford.

Matt Judge, Marcel Bout and Jim Lawlor have all left their roles at United in a summer that will mark a massive change in how the club scout and recruits players. Andy O'Boyle has also been appointed as Murtough's right-hand man and he will free up the director's time to work on the bigger picture at United.

However, according to a report by the Daily Mail, United are interested in bringing Michael Edwards to the club, with Chelsea also interested. Edwards was sporting director at Liverpool, a position in which he gained a reputation for being a 'transfer guru' due to a number of recruitment successes.

Edwards was responsible for bringing the likes of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk and Alisson to the club. It is unclear what role he would have at United, should he make the move, but many fans believe it would be unlikely that he would take a step down and work under Murtough.

The MEN understands United are unlikely to make a move for Edwards, despite being keen to fine-tune their footballing structure. But that hasn't stopped United fans discussing the potential move on Twitter, with some welcoming the potential appointment of Edwards but others questioning why he'd make the move to Old Trafford.
