The all-time Premier League table by points per game

Fifty different clubs have competed in the English top-flight since it was rebranded as the Premier League at the beginning of the 1992-93 season. But which clubs have fared best and worst in that time?

Six different clubs – Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and Everton – have been present in the Premier League for all 30 seasons.

Thanks to their longevity and consistency, those famous clubs dominate when it comes to the all-time Premier League table in terms of total accumulated points.

But what about their average results? The same big clubs still dominate at the top; Manchester United have never finished lower than seventh, and have almost always been in the top four, so it’s no surprise to see the Red Devils with a healthy lead at the top in terms of points per game.

In fact, United – largely thanks to two decades of unprecedented success under Sir Alex Ferguson – are the only side to average more than two points per game across the entire Premier League era.

European regulars Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool unsurprisingly make up the rest of the points-per-game top four, while fifth-placed Manchester City have closed the gap in recent years thanks to their relentlessness under Pep Guardiola – helping to average out their many mediocre campaigns in the 90s and 00s.

Tottenham complete the traditional ‘big six’, while Leeds United – who have spent more seasons outside the Premier League than in it – are up in seventh, helped by only having one campaign in which they suffered a relegation.
