The 10 worst finishers in Europe's top 5 leagues this season - Ronaldo and Messi feature
Lionel Messi‘s shock move to PSG hasn’t exactly panned out just yet.
It was a seismic moment in the footballing world when Messi, the beating heart of Barcelona for years on end, was forced to say good-bye to Catalonia.
Riddled with mountains of debt thanks to years of egregious financial mismanagement, Barca were simply unable to register their talismanic forward and were left with no choice but to let him go.
It was PSG who would spread their arms the widest to welcome Messi, giving him the opportunity to reunite with close friend, Neymar.
On top of that, the tantalising prospect of Messi linking up with Kylian Mbappe was enough to set the hearts of football fans all over the globe a flutter.
Meanwhile, Messi’s eternal rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, was making moves of his own as he spurned Manchester City in the 11th hour to return to his beloved Manchester United.
The Portuguese star arrived at Old Trafford amid a flurry of fevered fan-fair with a dream of driving United back to the top of the game.
Sadly, for both men, those moves have rather flopped. While Ronaldo has almost single-handedly kept United afloat at times, he and his teammates have struggled for consistency.
Messi, meanwhile, has shown glimpses of his genuine genius, but hasn’t been able to string together a run of good performances.
Now, according to a report in PlanetFootball, their seasons have been laid bare, with the duo featuring among the top ten worst finishers in Europe’s top five divisions.
Using the simple formula of comparing a players’ xG to their actual goals scored in their respective leagues so far, they were able to come up with a list of 10 wasteful warriors.
10. Lorenzo Insigne – 10.3xG, 7 goals scored
9. Gabriel Jesus – 5.3xG, 2 goals
