The 10 clubs with the most Champions League final appearances as Liverpool reach 10

Liverpool made history last night as they became they became the first English side to reach double figures in European Cup/Champions League final appearances.

A 3-2 win for the Reds sealed a 5-2 aggregate victory and secured their passage to the Stade de France for their date with destiny on the 28th May.

It will be Liverpool’s 10th European Cup final appearance and fifth since the competition was re-branded to the UEFA Champions League back in 1992.

Of those finals, the Reds have been triumphant on six occasions, winning the competition in 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, 2005 and 2019.

Talk about European pedigree.

But whilst Liverpool might rule the roost when it comes to English clubs, how do they fare in comparison to the rest of the continent?

Los Blancos truly are European giants.

Their tally of 16 finals is even more impressive when you consider they won 13 of them, giving them nearly double the number of victories of their nearest rival (AC Milan – 7).

Adding to their formidable reputation, Real Madrid haven’t lost a European Cup final since falling short at the hands of Liverpool in 1981 – that’s over 40 years ago!

AC Milan and Bayern Munich tie for second spot with a more than respectable 11 finals.

The Rossoneri enjoyed much of their European success in the 20th century, although did appear in the final on three occasions between 2003-2007.

Whereas the Bavarian club have won the competition six times in total, two of which were in the last decade – 2012/2013 & 2019/2020.
