'That's a big problem...' - Gary Neville lambasts Spurs man who's 'nowhere near good enough'

Tottenham Hotspur suffered the worst possible result on Saturday evening, losing to fellow top four contenders Manchester United, falling further behind in the pursuit of Champions League football.

The game was taken away from Spurs by yet another Cristiano Ronaldo hattrick. They responded well to his opening goal with Harry Kane equalising via a penalty. Then a Harry Maguire own goal saw Antonio Conte’s side draw level again, but only for the game to be taken away from them by Ronaldo’s third goal late on.

Gary Neville was on Sky Sports for the game, and he picked up a major flaw for Spurs in how they want to play given what they have available, saying: “That system demands that you have really good wing-backs. Their wing-backs are nowhere near good enough. Nowhere near good enough. That system is critical in having good wing-backs and I think Reguilon, Doherty on the right, the quality’s not there, on both sides of the game, either going forward or defensively.

“So I think that’s a big problem for Spurs. If they had really top wing-backs, they’d be doing an awful lot better.”

There were promising signs there for Spurs, who could have easily come away with at least a point on another day. Will that be enough to entice Antonio Conte to stay at the club if he can make signings in the summer that can play to the level he needs in his system?

The pair (Matt Doherty Sergio Reguilon) lost possession a whopping 31 times between them during the game, showing how wasteful they were with possession. Both only won 50% of their ground duels as well, showing they need to work on both aspects of their game.
