'That is a lot of money' - Journalist claims Everton now 'trying to weigh up' big swoop

Everton are weighing up what “sort of asset” Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White would likely be for them if they were to sign the England U21 international this summer.

That is according to Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the Toffees’ potential transfer business ahead of August’s Premier League kick-off.

Frank Lampard’s side have already had a £20m bid rejected by Wolves for Gibbs-White, with the West Midlands club having no desire to sell the 22-year-old this summer.

Bruno Lage’s side would be hoping for something closer to £30m to part ways with the attacking midfielder this season, with Everton currently considering what their next move is going to be.

And Jones believes that the Merseyside club are currently weighing up whether they would be happy to spend that money on the Wolves academy product.

“Gibbs-White has now got a price tag of £30m.

“That is a lot of money to be paying for him.

“They’re trying to weigh up exactly what value he holds and what sort of asset he’s going to be to them if they were to put that sort of money into the deal.”

We believe that whilst Gibbs-White, who has been described as “superb” by Jack Rathbone, would be an excellent addition for Lampard’s side, has clearly got a lot of potential, £30m is quite steep for a young player who has never played on a regular basis in the top-flight.

However, he could go on to prove that statement wrong if he hits the ground running in the Premier League this season, and £30m for a homegrown talent would look like a bargain if he could settle into Lampard’s system at Everton.
