Ten Hag takes swipe at 'unacceptable' early leavers

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has criticised Cristiano Ronaldo and other players for leaving the Red Devils' friendly against Rayo Vallecano on Sunday before the game had finished.

Ronaldo, who has been strongly linked with a move away from United this summer, made his first appearance under Ten Hag against the La Liga side, playing the first half of a 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

He was picture leaving the ground before the match had ended, along with Diogo Dalot, who was not part of the squad. Other players are also reported to have departed before the full-time whistle.

"There were many more who went home," Ten Hag replied to Dutch broadcaster Viaplay Sport Nederland when asked about Ronaldo's exit.

"It's unacceptable, for everybody. I tell them. That it is unacceptable and that we are a team, so a selection. That you have to stay until the end."

After Sunday's match Ronaldo posted a picture of him playing in the game on social media with the caption: "Happy to be back!"

He returned to Manchester United's training ground with his agent Jorge Mendes over a week ago to discuss his future at the club.

The Portugal forward missed United's pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia because of personal reasons amid speculation over his future.

He has a year left on his United contract after rejoining from Juventus last August.
