Teggart holds on to sprint jersey at Tour of Britain

Ireland's Matthew Teggart has maintained the sprint jersey after another impressive ride on day two of the Tour of Britain.

The County Down man, part of the WiV SunGod team, had claimed maximum points in Sunday’s Stage One sprinting runs to claim the white jersey – and he managed to do likewise on Monday by claiming all three sprint sections on the Hawick to Duns route.

That leaves Teggart on 18 points on the overall sprints classification, 12 points clear of nearest challenger Travis Stedman.

The Banbridge man also had a win in one of the King of the Mountains sections, leaving him third overall in the race for the green jersey behind Jacob Scott and Stephen Bassett.

Corbin Strong continues to lead the general classification rankings after a third-placed finish on Stage Two. Monday’s stage was won by Dutch rider Cees Bol.

Bol snatched victory by the tightest of margins in Duns as he came out on top in a chaotic sprint finish, beating Jake Stewart into second place with Strong in third.

Bol's Team DSM team-mates had reeled in an attack by Bora Hansgrohe's Nils Politt and massed at the front of the pack in a bid to control the finish.

Stewart (Great Britain) made the first move and crossed the line in an apparent dead heat with the Dutchman, who was given the victory on a photo finish.

Teggart is 100th overall, with fellow Irish rider Rory Townsend, also part of the WiV SunGod team, one spot behind.

Jersey confirmed ✅ Matthew Teggart (@wivsungod) continues his 100% record in the @sportsbreakscom sprints competition at Reston (KM117.8).
