Teenager arrested after man seriously hurt in 'targeted' attack in Manchester city centre

A teenager has been arrested after a man was left hurt in a 'targeted' attack in Manchester City Centre.

Police responded to reports of an assault on busy Withy Grove at around 1.50am this morning (Saturday). A 20-year-old man was found injured on the scene.

He was taken to hospital with serious injuries. An 18-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault.

He remains in custody to be quizzed by detectives. Police said the 'shocking' attack was believed to have been targeted.

Detectives now want to speak to any witnesses, or anyone who has CCTV, mobile or dash cam footage of the incident. Detective Inspector Natalie McDonald said: "This shocking attack left a young man seriously injured and our officers have moved quickly to find the suspect.

"We are still working to establish the full circumstances but it is believed to have been a targeted attack with no wider risk to the public. We are now appealing to anyone with information or footage related to this incident - including CCTV, mobile or dashcam - to make a report to police to aid our enquiries.
