Team GB boxing pioneer Nicola Adams gives verdict in Imane Khelif Olympics boxing row
Nicola Adams has slammed the decision to allow Imane Khelif to compete in the summer Olympics as "unfair" and "dangerous", following a contentious boxing match with Angela Carini.
The double Olympic gold medallist took to social media with a post that mistakenly implied Khelif was not biologically female from birth and had experienced male puberty.
Carini, aged 25, withdrew from their round-of-16 fight after just 46 seconds, having been struck by a powerful blow from Khelif a punch she described as the heaviest she's ever received.
Khelif, who emerged victorious in the bout, had previously been barred from the previous year's World Boxing Championships when the International Boxing Association (IBA), a now discredited association according to the IOC, ruled she failed a gender eligibility test. Lin Yuting of Chinese Taipei was similarly disqualified for the same reason.
Despite this, both athletes were cleared to participate in this year's Olympic Games after the International Olympic Committee (IOC) criticised the IBA's tests as "sudden and arbitrary", noting that the IBA is not recognised by the IOC, reports the Mirror.
It should be noted that neither Khelif nor Lin have identified as transgender or intersex. Reports confirm that 25-year-old Khelif was born biologically female, which is also reflected in her Algerian passport documentation.

Nevertheless, Khelif's participation and subsequent win at the Olympics have ignited a firestorm of controversy on the internet. Nicola Adams has openly criticised the decision to include a transgender boxer at the Olympic Games, expressing her discontent on X.
Adams, who made
